What’s New with Newcomers? There are so many ways in which our members contribute to the fun of this group and the vitality of the community, from hosting an event to beautifying the town island we sponsor. Many of our activities are geared toward one demographic or another within the group – ladies night, men’s poker, etc. – while there are a few that are meant to bring together our entire community. In particular, the Children’s Concert, Holiday Party and Spring Fling require a lot of advanced planning, organization and coordination to ensure that they come off without a hitch. Maria Casarano and Andrea Campbell put together an amazing concert in February and I wanted to be sure to recognize them for their efforts. The concert is the group’s annual fund raiser, providing monies for the Museum of Science pass that we purchase for the entire town to enjoy year-round, and this year’s shindig was an unprecedented success. And although I am writing these paragraphs a few days before the Spring Fling, I want to take a moment to thank Meagan Putney and Caroline Boucher for all of their hard work coordinating both the December Holiday Party and the events of this coming Saturday. These three occasions certainly represent the club events with our greatest attendance, and the gals behind these get-togethers deserve a huge round of applause! With Spring just around the corner (I know it felt like Summer last month, but really, folks…it’s only April), our thoughts turn to the end of the school year…and ways in which we might find opportunities to make new connections in the community next year. As you think about the transitions on the horizon for your family, please think about volunteering in one capacity or another with Newcomers & Neighbors.
Several of us on the Board are completing our third leadership year, and therefore coming up against the time limit set forth in the group’s bylaws. We would welcome participation from any and all members, whether you think you might like to join the Board, or perhaps simply step up to help with the organization of a Special Interest Group. Meetings are fun and relaxed, and they are a great way to become more involved in the town. If you would be interested in taking on a new role in the group, please contact either Sarah (sarah.littlefield@verizon.net) or Caroline (cpika19@yahoo.com). [It really is a lot of fun…]
