A Note From The President
I
want to welcome everyone back after a wild and crazy summer! I’m really excited to be heading up the
Newcomer's Board this year and look forward to working with one and
all. Please see our list of board members and interest group leaders that
appears to the left of this. We
still have a few positions open so please take some time to look them
over and consider volunteering some of your time.
We
have a great group of people who will be lending their time and talents
to the club this year and I hope all of our members are able to take
advantage of the great activities planned. I think what makes Reading Newcomers
and Neighbors a great organization is the level of commitment and
participation of its members. Here
are just a few ways I hope our members are able to participate over the
next year:
·
Volunteer for one of our open positions
·
Host an event: ladies night, couples social, tea &
toddler, poker night, etc
·
Share an idea at a meeting or send us an email
·
Let us know about an event happening in town, your
school, another organization, etc
·
Bring a guest to an event or a meeting
·
Share the club information with someone in town be
they a newcomer or a neighbor
·
Attend a monthly event
Keep
in mind we are trying to streamline our newsletter and go green at the
same time so make sure to check your email for our newsletters and not
your mailbox. Also, we will try to post more about our activities, and
those going on in the community on our website. Our September calendar is
just starting to fill up, make sure to check your email and our website
for any updates.
Enjoy
the rest of the summer (we do technically have a few more weeks) and I
look forward to seeing you at one of our September events!

SHOPPING NIGHT
Please
join us for the annual Newcomers and Neighbors Shopping Night on
Thursday, October 22 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm. Featuring
dozens of vendors from
Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, and Rhode
Island, Shopping Night is a great way to
get a head start on your holiday shopping, or
even pick up a few treats for yourself.
This
is a fun event that always draws a crowd, with free refreshments, and
entertainment
from
local a cappella quartet Talk To
The Hand (featuring two of our members ‐
Liz
Whitelam and Sarah Littlefield). With gifts for
every budget, Shopping Night is a
great
way to discover unique, hand‐made treasures while spending time
with friends
and supporting the local community. Shopping
Night is always free and open to the
public,
and it is a great way to introduce people to the Club, so bring some
friends or
just
bring yourself to the lower level of the Masonic Temple on Haven
Street.
